Ito Yokado is one of Japan's largest retail chains. We visit the store for cheap groceries and sometimes, for clothes that look like Uniqlo/GU, but much more sophisticated at about the same price.
During my recent shopping for the quest of new winter boots, I discovered several areas within the nearby Ito Yokado were occupied by capsule-toy vending machines; I also found out there were some featuring Attack on Titan toys.
I just could not pass through these areas without stopping, and I spent some moments messing around with the machines.
Here are the mascots I obtained. Too bad I couldn't get Armin.
1) Jean and Levi (super-deformed): The characters are all in sitting position in this collection. The brick parts can be linked together as seen in the third picture. I think the way they sit represents their personalities.
2) Levi and Erwin (realistic version): This duo was designed by Kaiyodo, a well-known figure manufacturer in Osaka. While 1) pursues prettiness, this collection is into reality, not even concealing the grisly weltanschuung of the story.
This version embodies Levi's cold-bloodedness...
...as well as Erwin's sense of mission. I was quite shocked at seeing his amputated arm. It looks quite real, with bloody muscle cell fibers oozing out from the wound.
3) Motif of chocolate: Another vending machine sold AOT novelties with unique design, featuring the characters in straps in the shape of chocolate. I got Levi in "deco-choco".
I had no idea what "deco-choco" was until doing internet research. It seems like drawing pictures with chocolate pen (a pen-like cooking utensil with chocolate as ink) on chocolate bars, sponge cake, etc.
4) Housecleaning version:
If you have read/seen the comic/anime, you are already aware of Levi's obsession with cleanliness. This comical collection depicts Levi and Eren while tidying the barrack. While Levi nags wielding a broom, Eren reluctantly carries the buckets.
Extra: Uh...is anyone interested in adopting this poor little Jean? I happened to obtain two figures of him (version 1)). Not that I dislike him, but I wouldn't need two Jeans in my curio cabinet. If interested, and can come over to Hachioji, I will hand him over for free.
