First Sewing of 2016-Gray Tulle Skirt-

This magazine which I bought at the end of year 2015, inspired me to make a new tulle skirt.

Actually, I have been crazy for tulle skirts for a long time; my passion seemed to fuel even more when I found via the internet fashionistas mixing them with sneakers, my standard footwear.

But I also found out that most skirts (and pants) on the Japanese market are personally too tight on the waist.

Seriously, I cannot wear skirts without elastic waistband that are sold in Japan.

That is one of the reasons I began learning dressmaking...however, tulle was an unfamiliar fabric to me, and my not-so-adventurous attitude made me duck from challenge.

But noticing the tulle skirt in one of my favorite apparel shop was too tight, I thought it was about time I was able to make one with my sewing machine.

These are the ones I made last fall;

I cut the pattern true to my waist size, about 72cm.

These skirts satisfied my fashion-conscious mind and confort, so I felt like making the third type with gray glen plaid cotton fabric. That is when I ran into recent issue of FUDGE, the magazine mentioned at the beginning.

The concept of this magazine would be "street style with a touch of mode". I guess it targets readers that do not belong to "kawaii"/"working conservative"/"high fashion"/"girly". It gave me an impression that it aims "a little bit of everything from vintage, casual, normcore, minor brands and mode".

This issue featured on fashionistas living in Paris/London. After browsing in the bookstore I purchased it, because I loved the European way of wearing sneakers.

I usually do not like being critical of my country (yes, I am quite different from all those multilingual Japanese who think being cosmopolitan/cool means degrading his/her native country to extremes and sometimes in a wrong way; of course, every country is not flawless, but whenever I encounter these kind of folks, I secretly delete them from my life), but I personally consider Japanese are not that good at styling with sneakers. Most of the examples provided in the magazines are either too casual or bland. That is why I turned to Parisiennes and London girls of this magazine.

There were several posh stylings as the ladies from Paris and London shown below...

...but I was most intrigued by the cover girl on the left, posing as a Parisienne.

Ah, the nautical shirt, simple skirt, leather jacket and sneakers...simple, yet you feel like shouting out "tres chic"! An image many women have on Parisiennes.

I could not help buying nautical shirts at GU some days later.

One of the shirts purchased was a gray/white, and I thought it would match the gray glen plaid tulle skirt.

However, copying in full would look boring, so I came up with adding articles related to team colors of San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies.

SAS Black and Silver
Stole with tassels GU
Beanie Selection (a sports goods store in Shinjuku specializing in major professional sports in the U.S.)

SAC Purple and Gray

Stole Uniqlo
Beanie Jeans Shop Marukawa

MEM Blue and Gray (Instead of Smoke Blue)

Beanie NBA Store

Quite amusing, you can express a hint of your zeal for favorite teams with inexpensive fashion goods.

**Extra Version**
Last year, there was a motion picture of Milwaukee Bucks players introducing their team (I think it was part of "NBA World"). One of the players named Zaza Pachulia as the smartest dresser in the team. It showed the Georgian big man dressed in dark crewneck sweater and crisp white shirt. I assume he was wearing slim black slacks.

Unfortunately I could not find the video now, so I beg your pardon, I drew a simple illustration of Pachulia-san.

I know, I know, the actual footage was much nicer!

Anyways, I liked his neat and trim appearance, in contrast to his usual wild appearance in uniform (not that I dislike him in uniform). Being fascinated by the contrast; in Japanese slang, you call it "gyappu moe". Trivia of the day!

The styling below is inspired by Pachulia-san's fashion.
